The types of protection

• A patent without substantive examination for a period of 7 years from the filing date of the application in Turkey.
• A patent with substantive examination for a period of 20 years from the filing date of the application in Turkey.
• A utility model of 10 years from the filing date of the application in Turkey.

It is possible to convert a patent, irrespective of its term of protection, into a utility model and vice-versa.

Processes and products obtained by said processes as well as chemical products cannot be subject of utility model protection according to article 155 of the Turkish Decree-Law no. 551 pertaining to the protection of Turkish Patents and Turkish Utility Models.
